As teachers are both highly skilled and key workers, they are often viewed very favourably by mortgage lenders. Some mainstream lenders may, occasionally, make special products available to them. It is, however, important to compare these to standard products to see which offers the best deal. Teachers may also qualify for other special key-worker deals such as shared-ownership schemes.
Newly-qualified teachers, supply teachers and teachers who are on shorter-term contracts, may find it more difficult to qualify for standard products. They may, however, still be able to get a mortgage from a specialist lender and/or with the help of a mortgage broker.
